Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is the recruitment body started in 1975 with an aim to encourage the recruitment and placement of young graduates in public sector banks (except SBI) in India.


Aspirants who are eligible and aspires to join any of the Participating Organisations (listed below) as a Probationary Officer/Management Trainee or in a similar post in that cadre, is required to register for the Common Recruitment Process (CRPPO/MT-VIII).  


The examination will be held in two phases, i.e. Online Preliminary and Online Main. A candidate who will qualify in an Online Preliminary examination and shortlisted will have to appear for an Online Main examination. Therefore shortlisted candidates in the Online Main examination will subsequently be called for a Common Interview to be conducted by the Participating Organisations and co-ordinated by the Nodal Bank.


Later, shortlisted candidates will be provisionally allotted to one of the Participating Organisations keeping in view the spirit of Govt. Guidelines on reservation policy, administrative convenience, etc.


Note: The vacancies to be filled in during the financial year 2019-20 and it is based on the business needs of the Participating Organisations and as reported to IBPS.

IBPS PO Eligibility Criteria




Candidate must fulfill one of the following criteria:

  • Should be a citizen of India OR

  • Must be subject of Nepal or Bhutan OR

  • Should be a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India OR

  • Should be a person of Indian origin who has migrated from other countries (Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam) with the intention of permanently settling in India  


Note: Provided that a candidate belonging to categories above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Govt. of India.


Age Limit As On August 1, 2019:

To apply for the Probationary Officer post candidate be a minimum of 20 years and a maximum of 30 years.


Relaxation in the upper age limit:


For SC/ST: 5 Years

For OBC: 3 Years

For PWD: 10 Years Domiciled in J&K during the period 01/01/1980 - 31/12/1989: 5 Years

Ex-Servicemen, Commissioned Officers including Emergency Commissioned Officers (ECOs)/ Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs) - 5 Years


Educational Qualification:


Applicant/candidate should have a degree in any discipline from a recognized university of India or any of its equivalent qualification recognized by the central government.


Candidate should have a valid marks sheet/degree certificate, which should indicate that he/she is a graduate on the day he/she registered.


While registering online the candidate is required to mention the marks obtained in the graduation

IBPS PO Syllabus:

Reasoning Section


This section will have two types of reasoning questions that are (i) Verbal and (ii) Analytic reasoning:


(i) Verbal Reasoning: Alphabet test, Mathematical operations test, Series test, Analogy. Odd Man out, Classification, Syllogism, Coding-decoding, Blood relations, Number, ranking and time sequence, Causes and effects.


(ii) Analytic reasoning: Direction sense test. Sitting arrangement Decision making, Input-output, Puzzle, Statement & conclusions. Statement & assumptions, Statement & arguments, Statement and action’s courses, Passage and conclusions, Figure Series, Word formation, Assertion and reasoning. 

Quantitative Aptitude


Number system, HCF & LCM, Number series, Problems based on numbers. Approximation Wrong Number, Decimal fractions, Square root and cube root, Percentage, Ratio and proportions, Average & Ages Ratio & Proportion. Profit and loss, Simple interest and compound interest, Time and work, Time and Distance, Mensuration, Permutation and Combination, Probability, Data Interpretation, Pie charts, Bar graphs, Line graphs, Mixed graphs. 

English Language Section


Spotting the errors, Ordering of sentences or jumbled up sentences, Phrase substitution, Double blanks in a sentence, Fill in the blanks, Cloze Test, Idioms & Phrases, Synonyms and antonyms, Reconstruction of sentence & passage, One-word substitution, Commonly misspelled words, Comprehensions.


General awareness (special reference to banking industry)


Current Rates (Bank rate, Repo Rate, Reverse repo rate etc.), International-Economy, Indian Economy, Questions related to International Financial Institutions (World Bank, IMF, UN, ADB related – Members, recent development, functions), Finance, Shares, Various schemes of Government, Books & Their Authors, Types of Banks, GDP related, RBI, Fiscal-Monetary Policies etc., Social Function of Banks, UNO, Marketing, Awards & Honors, Sports, Budget, Agriculture, Current Affairs (last 6 months) news and current affairs.


Computer knowledge


Basic computer terminology such as MS Office, Operating Systems, Number System, Software & Hardware questions (Database & communication), History of computers, Computer abbreviation, Basic knowledge of Internet & Networking etc.

How to Apply


Candidates can apply online only from August 07, 2019, to August 28, 2019. There is no other option available to apply for this exam.


To apply candidates have to visit the official website of IBPS.


Select the link ‘CWE PO/MT'.

Click on Apply Online Link for CWE – Probationary Officer/Management Trainees.  


Once the application form is opened, candidates have to fill carefully in all the given options with the required details to generate registration ID and password.


Then submit all the required details without mistakes.


Thereafter the candidate has to pay the mentioned fee. Application payment can be done through online and offline mode.


Online Mode: In this mode, payment can be done through Master/ Visa Debit or Credit cards or Internet Banking. 

Offline Mode: Payment of fees can be done through CBS branches of any of the following public sector banks - Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Central Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab National Bank, United Bank of India.


After completion of the payment process click on the submit button and take the print out of the application form from the provided option.

IBPS Selection Process 2020

Selection of candidates for the IBPS PO, RRB, Clerk, and SO involves a detailed and elaborate process:

Selection process broadly comprises of two stages:

  • Written examination (Prelims and Mains)

  • Personal Interview

Based on the candidate's performance in these two rounds he/she would be shortlisted for allotment of posts.

Common Written Examination:

  • Common Written Examination (Prelims and Mains) will be conducted online which consists of objective type questions.

  • Each candidate is required to obtain a minimum score in each section and also a minimum total score, which will be considered to shortlist the candidate for the interview.

  • An examination is objective type and is for a duration of 120 minutes.

  • The question paper consists of 200 questions with one mark each.

  • A negative marking of 0.25 is assigned.

Common Interview:

  • Candidates who are shortlisted in the written examination for CWE will subsequently be called for an Interview to be conducted by the Participating Organisations.

  • Total marks allotted for IBPS Interview is 100.

  • Minimum Qualify marks: for General: Above 40% and for SC/ST/PH/OBC/PWD: Above 35%

  • IBPS Department will generate scorecard based on candidate's performance in the written exam and interview with a ratio of 80:20 (CWE & Interview)

  • A candidate qualified in both the exams is shortlisted for the provisional Allotment Process.


After completion of interview candidates shortlisted will be allotted to one of the Participating Organizations depending on the available vacancies. The allotment of candidates to a participating organization shall be final, which is made by keeping government guidelines in view. Interviews will be conducted at selected centres.
