The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is an all India entrance examination conducted once a year for admission to MBBS. The NEET Undergraduate (UG) is the only entrance exam for admission to all the medical institutes spread across the country including All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) according to NMC Act, 2019. 

The All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) was replaced by the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG), popularly known as (NEET-UG) from 2012 onwards. NEET is a competitive entrance exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) until 2018 for admission to MBBS and BDS courses.

National Testing Agency (NTA)

National Testing Agency (NTA) has been established as a premier, specialist, autonomous and self-sustained testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for admission/fellowship in higher educational institutions.

NTA is the newly formed body by the center to conduct JEE Main (I) & (II), NEET-UG, GPAT, UGC NET, CMAT, etc. entrance exam from 2019 onwards, taking over the management of these exams from CBSE and respective boards.

At present, 15% of the total seats in all medical and dental colleges run by the Union of India, state governments, municipal or other local authorities in India, except in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, are reserved for candidates who pass this examination. The exam is usually conducted on the first Sunday of May.

Here are the changes to be implemented for the NEET-UG exam with the Introduction of NTA:

From the year 2019 onwards, candidates should have to appear for NEET-UG in Pen & Paper-based test only.

Students will have more time to prepare for their entrance exam because the exam will take place in the month of May.

There will be a normalization process for the calculation of scores to have fair results.

NEET UG Eligibility Criteria


Candidate must be at least 17 years as on the 31st December of the year of admission. 

  • Candidate must be an Indian National. 

  • Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are eligible for admission in seats under the control of participating States/Universities/Medical Institutions. 

  • Upper age limit for candidates seeking admission under 15% All India Quota Seats is 25 years as on December 31 of the year of admission. 

  • The upper age limit is 30 years for SC / ST / OBC category candidates is after giving relaxation of 5 years. 

  • Candidates should have passed 10+2 or HSC with 50% Marks for General Category- Candidate must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology. 

  • Candidates should have 10+2 or HSC with 40% Marks for OBC/SC/ST Category - Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes must have obtained 40% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology have taken together. 

  • Candidates should have qualifying Marks for PH/PWD Category – Minimum of 45% marks for Gen-PH and 40% marks for SC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH candidates with locomotory disability of lower limbs. 

Candidates from Jammu & Kashmir:

Students from the Jammu & Kashmir are not eligible for NEET-UG 15% All India quota seats. If candidates wish to appear for the exam then they have to upload self-declaration form in the prescribed format. It must be noted that incomplete, unsigned or photocopy of the self-declaration will be summarily rejected. If the declaration found to be false the admission will be cancelled and criminal proceedings will be taken for them.


Important Notes: From Jammu & Kashmir state students are not eligible to seek admissions for MBBS/BDS seats in Medical/ Dental Colleges Qualifications and Qualifying Examination Codes for NEET-UG 2020:

CODE 01: Candidate who is appearing in the qualifying examination, i.e., 12th Standard in 2019 whose result is awaited, can apply and take up NEET-UG 2019 but they will not be eligible for admission to the MBBS or BDS if they do not pass the qualifying examination with the required pass percentage of marks at the time of first round of Counselling.

CODE 02: The Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (which include practical tests in these subjects) and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after the introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.


CODE 03: The Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science of an Indian University/Board or other recognized examining body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Biotechnology (including practical test in these subjects) and also English as a compulsory subject


CODE 04: The Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology & English after passing either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination. The Pre-professional/Pre-medical examination will include a practical test in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject.


CODE 05: The first year of the three years’ degree course of a recognized University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests in these subjects provided the examination is a University Examination and candidate has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio- technology with English at a level not less than a core course.


CODE 06: B.Sc. Examination of an Indian University provided that candidates have passed the B.Sc. Examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology and further that they have passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English.


CODE 07: Any other examination which in scope and standard (Last 02 years of 10+2 Study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology; Which includes a practical test in these subjects) is found to be equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests in each of these subjects and English.

The process to Apply For NEET UG


The registration process for NEET-UG 2020 is going to start from December 02, 2019, to December 31, 2019. Below mentioned points have to follow strictly by each & every candidate while filling up the application form.


  • Candidates should have to apply online for NEET-UG 2020.

  • Candidates must follow the instructions strictly as given in the information bulletin and on the website. 

  • Fill in the online application form Part-I and note down the registration number. 

  • Upload images of photograph and signature in JPG format at Part-II of the application.

  • Make a payment of fee through Debit/Credit Card or download Challan for payment in the designated accounts of Canara Bank / Syndicate Bank/e-Post Office at Part III. 

  • Take a print out of confirmation page(s) at Part IV of online application format to send to CBSE along with a copy of proof of fee deposited, if a fee is deposited through Challan mode.

  • Candidates must have to take four copies of the confirmation page of the online application, for further use in the future.

  • Candidates have to keep the original receipt issued by the post office for having dispatched the application form.

  • Proof of fee paid. 

  • The completed application form must reach the below address.

The fee can be paid through online mode by using Credit/Debit Card/Net Banking with their respective bank accounts


In addition to examination fees, service/processing charges will also be paid by the candidates for online payment of fee through Debit/Credit Card/UPI/Net Banking/e-wallet along with applicable taxes by the respective banks. Details of the same are available on the board's website.

The candidates must note that after submission of the application form it cannot be withdrawn. The refund amount of application fee will not be entertained.

A Requirement Of AADHAR:

  • From 2017 onwards, the Aadhaar linking facility to this entrance exam was introduced successfully. Almost, 97% of candidates registered for the NEET(UG) with the help of Aadhaar number/Aadhaar Enrolment number/Aadhaar Registration Number.

  • Remaining 3% of candidates registered the application form with Bank Account number/Passport number/Ration card number and other Government valid Identity Cards. Accordingly, the same practice is being followed for NEET (UG), 2020.

  • The use of Aadhaar for the candidates of NEET (UG)-2020 will result in an accuracy of the candidates‟ details. This will also help in ascertaining the identities of the candidates at the examination centres in a convenient and hassle-free manner.

Accordingly, NTA has decided to use Aadhaar for the candidates in NEET (UG)-2020, and notifies the following:

  • Candidates, who are in possession of Aadhaar, shall enter Aadhaar number, name, date of birth & gender in the online application for NEET (UG)-2020 for the purpose of his/her identity and authentication thereof.

  • Candidates not yet enrolled for Aadhaar, are hereby required to make an application for Aadhaar enrolment in case he/she is entitled to obtain Aadhaar as per section 3 of Aadhaar Act. Such an applicant may visit any Aadhaar enrolment centre (list available at to get enrolled for Aadhaar.

  • In order to facilitate such candidates who are not having Aadhaar, the NTA has specially set up facilitation centres in each city of examination for the purpose of Aadhaar enrolment.

  • The candidates can approach such facilitation centres who will not charge any amount from any applicant for Aadhaar enrolment. The list of the facilitation centre is available on These candidates who have enrolled for Aadhaar and have not received Aadhaar should enter 14 digits Aadhaar Enrolment ID (including slash) printed on the Aadhaar enrolment slip at the time of filling an online application form for NEET (UG)-2020.

  • In case the Aadhaar enrolment facility is not available at the facilitation centres, the candidates should submit a request for Aadhaar enrolment. The facilitation centre will issue a registration number to such candidates. This registration number should be entered by the candidates at the time of filling the online application form for NEET (UG)-2020.

  • The above provisions shall be applicable in all states except Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, & Meghalaya as per Aadhaar Act.

Filling up of Online Application Form by PwD candidates in MBBS/BDS Courses 

After the advice from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, National Test Agency (NTA) has announced that candidates with disabilities can fill the application forms for the NEET UG 2020 on the basis of the draft guidelines placed on the website of the Medical Council of India (MCI). 


In case, any changes are made in the draft notification by MCI, the candidate may correct the particulars of the application at the time when correction facility in the application form is available i.e. from January 14 to 31, 2020.

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Post Graduate (NEET-PG) is a competitive entrance exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE).

NBE is an autonomous body established in 1975 under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. It was established as a Society under Delhi Society registration act, to standardizing postgraduate medical education and examination in India.

NEET-PG is an eligibility-cum-ranking examination prescribed as the single entrance examination to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses as per Section (10) of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956.

It is a single-window entrance examination for PG courses. No other entrance examination, either at state or institution level, shall be valid for entry to MD/MS/PG Diploma courses as per the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 w.e.f. 2020 admission session.

NEET-PG 2020 shall be a single eligibility cum entrance examination namely National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for admission to Postgraduate Medical Courses for the academic session 2020 which will include the following:

  • All India 50% quota seats for MD/MS/PG Diploma courses (all states except Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Telangana)

  • State quota seats for MD/MS/PG Diploma courses for all States/Union territories of India (including the states of Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Telangana)

  • MD/MS/PG Diploma courses at all Private Medical Colleges, Institutions & Universities/Deemed Universities all across the country

  • MD/MS/PG Diploma courses at Armed Forces Medical Services Institutions.

  • DNB Broad specialty courses (January 2020 Admission Session)

Note: Registration and submission of application form for appearing in the NEET-PG 2020 are to be undertaken online at the website Application forms cannot be submitted in the offline/printed copy by post.

The following Medical institutions are not covered by centralized admissions for MD/MS seats through NEET-PG for 2020 session:

  • AIIMS, New Delhi and Other AIIMS.

  • PGIMER, Chandigarh.

  • JIPMER, Puducherry.

  • NIMHANS, Bengaluru.

  • Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram.


PG seats of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are likely to be included in 50% All India Quota Seats 2019 subject to confirmation by the respective State Governments to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India.



NEET PG Eligibility Criteria


The candidates in possession MBBS degree or Provisional MBBS Pass Certificate recognized as per the provisions of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and possess permanent or provisional registration certificate of MBBS qualification issued by the Medical Council of India or State Medical Council and have completed one year of internship or are likely to complete the internship on or before March 31, 2020, may apply for NEET-PG 2020 through online application system at


Eligibility Criteria For All India 50% Quota Seats:


The candidates who have studied/qualified MBBS from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir are not eligible for All India 50% Quota seats. However, the candidates who were nominated by the Government of India (under central pool seats) to do MBBS from Medical Colleges in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir shall be eligible for All India 50% quota seats.


Such candidates must submit a duly signed affidavit declaring that he/she was nominated by the Government of India (under central pool seats) to do MBBS from Medical Colleges in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu & Kashmir.


The affidavit is to be sent to the following address along with the print out of the acknowledgment of the online application form for NEET-PG 2020 latest by the 21st of November 2019. It the candidates fail to submit the affidavit as indicated will not be considered for participation in All India 50% quota counseling.

Eligibility Criteria For Foreign Medical Graduates:

The candidates from Indian citizens or overseas citizens of India who have obtained their Primary Medical Qualifications from Medical Colleges outside India should have qualified the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (Screening Test) which is conducted by the National Board of Examinations.


Further, they should have been registered with MCI/SMC and should have completed their internship or likely to complete their internship on or before March 31, 2020. Foreign Medical Graduates are required to bring their FMGE Pass certificate issued by NBE on their testing day.


Eligibility Criteria For Foreign Nationals Graduates:


For Foreign Nationals, it is not mandatory to have temporary registration with MCI at the time of writing NEET-PG. So, the Foreign Nationals can write NEET-PG without MCI registration. The MCI may, on payment of the prescribed fee for registration, grant temporary registration for the duration of the Post Graduate course limited to the medical college/institution to which he/she is admitted for the time being exclusively for pursuing postgraduate studies.


Provided further that temporary registration to such foreign national shall be subject to the condition that such person is duly registered with appropriate registering authority in his own country wherefrom he has obtained his Basic Medical qualification and is duly recognized by the corresponding Medical Council or concerned authority. A candidate can submit his/her online application form and appear for NEET-PG 2020 only once for admission to the academic year 2020-2021. Candidates submitting multiple application forms will not be allowed to appear in NEET-PG.



The exam shall be conducted on a single day in a single session.

Allocation of time for the NEET-PG 2020 shall be as follows:


Syllabus: The syllabus for NEET-PG shall comprise of subject’s / knowledge areas as per the Graduate Medical Education Regulations issued by Medical Council of India with prior approval of Government of India. Kindly refer to the MCI Website for the complete document.


NEET: PG Shall be a multiple choice questions exam delivered on the computer-based platform (CBT).


The examination comprises of 300 Multiples choices, single correct response questions in English Language only. Time allotted is 3 hr 30 mins. The question paper shall be delivered into 3 parts (Parts A, B and C) each containing 50, 100, 150 MCQs respectively. The distribution of MCQs in these parts shall be as per para 7.


6.6 Negative marking: There shall be 25% negative marking for incorrect answers No marks will be deducted for un-attempted questions.
